The Opportunity

We are looking for an exceptional Commercial Manager to play a pivotal role in the growth and development of this packaging handling systems business. This is a genuinely rare position - one that sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, engineering innovation, and customer partnership.

You'll work closely with project engineers and customers to deliver optimised, cost-effective solutions, while leading the development of commercial processes that drive efficiency, quality and profitability. If you're technically credible, commercially sharp, and energised by complexity rather than intimidated by it - this could be the most interesting role you've ever had.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting new and existing business development to advance, compete and differentiate world-class conveyor/handling systems from the competition
  • Leading the development, performance and maintenance of commercial processes to maximise efficiency, service quality and profitability
  • Collaborating with project engineers and customers to deliver optimised, cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Reviewing and developing operational processes to enhance the design function and improve customer communication
  • Travelling UK and internationally to support business growth and customer relationships


What We're Looking For

This role calls for someone who combines technical depth with commercial acumen - a lateral thinker who is as comfortable reviewing a SolidWorks model as they are negotiating a commercial proposal.

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a design, commercial or technical engineering role
  • Minimum 2 years in a commercial role
  • HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • In-depth understanding of material handling equipment/systems
  • Proven experience of engineering design principles related to material handling equipment
  • Strong CAD / SolidWorks proficiency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant business systems

  • A clear, confident communicator at all levels
  • Customer-centric with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a tight-knit, skilled team where your expertise will be truly valued and where there is real scope for growth as the business expands. You will work within a small turning department, jointly responsible for five CNC lathes, taking each job from initial programming right through to final inspection. The role demands a high degree of skill and ownership, this isn't a button-pushing role. You'll be expected to programme, set and run your own work, produce quality components and take pride in what you make.   About the Company Our client is a well-equipped precision engineering company, operating with a small but highly skilled team, they run an impressive array of plant including eight Haas Milling Machines, three Doosan CNC Lathes, a Haas ST-20Y mill turn lathe - with a further Doosan 2600M being added in May 2026. The business has recently expanded into the automation sector, bringing new and exciting work through the door. With hands-on leadership from the Managing Director and a clear plan to grow both headcount and machine capacity over the coming years, this is a business with real ambition - and they want people who share it.
