About the Role

Due to an increase in demand, we are looking to recruit a Production Operative to join a busy and growing manufacturing team within a well-established British manufacturer based in Knaresborough.

It's an exciting time to join this business, having recently expanded their operations and product offering - the business is committed to growth and development and with that, comes opportunities for their employees.

Reporting to the Production Co-ordinator, you will work as part of a skilled production team in a modern 50,000 sq ft factory environment. The role is hands-on and varied, operating a range of machinery including:
  • Spot welders

  • CNC welding and bending machines

  • Hydraulic presses

  • Wire cutting and cropping machines

Full in-house training will be provided on all machines and processes.

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working on a wide variety of products. You will also be expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, quality, cost, delivery, and workplace safety.



About You

You will be someone who enjoys working both as part of a team and independently, with a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills. You will bring a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine passion for manufacturing excellence.

Key attributes include:

  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset

  • Flexibility to work across different areas of the factory, including wirework, coating plant, and warehouse

  • Commitment to health & safety and best working practices

The ability to read and interpret technical drawings would be advantageous, though training can be provided. Previous experience in a technical manufacturing environment is preferred but not essential.

The Role We are looking for a driven and customer-focused Quality Engineer to join this well-established engineering team. You will play a central role in shaping and sustaining the quality culture, ensuring compliance with IATF 16949, and acting as the primary interface with customers on quality-related matters. The role involves APQP, PPAP, customer complaint management, and structured problem solving, with clear scope to progress into senior quality roles. Key Responsibilities Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities in line with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements, from concept through to launch. Prepare, review, and submit PPAP documentation — including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and capability studies — ensuring on-time approval and compliance. Manage customer complaints and warranty claims, acting as the primary quality contact for assigned customers. Apply structured root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, fault tree analysis) to investigate internal and external quality concerns. Define, implement, and verify effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence and drive continuous improvement. Lead cross-functional problem-solving activities and Quick Action / containment meetings. Maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication, performance reviews, and support for customer audits. Support and lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including Approval to Ship processes and milestone tracking. Review production processes using Genchi Genbutsu principles to identify risks and improvement opportunities. Analyse quality data and KPIs using SPC and statistical tools to reduce process variation and improve capability. Liaise with suppliers on quality issues, including corrective actions and PPAP approvals. Skills & Experience Required Strong understanding and practical experience of IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems, including customer-specific requirements. Proven hands-on experience with APQP and PPAP within an automotive or automotive-related manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience in customer complaint management, including direct customer interaction and formal reporting (e.g. 8D). Strong capability in root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Experience using core quality tools: FMEA (DFMEA / PFMEA), Control Plans, MSA, SPC, capability analysis, 8D, and 5 Why. Minimum 5 years' background as a Quality Engineer, ideally within a Tier 1 automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment (pressed, injection-moulded, and cast components preferred). Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams. Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience. You will play a key role in keeping manufacturing operations running smoothly by carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and continuous improvement activities across a range of production machinery and equipment. Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and wider production teams, you will help drive reliability, reduce downtime, and contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.
