Based in West Yorkshire and part of a major global engineering group, the business combines the scale and resources of an international organisation with a strong focus on innovation, manufacturing excellence, and continuous improvement.

As the business continues to grow and develop its manufacturing operations, they are looking to strengthen their Production Engineering team with an experienced Process Engineer.

The Role 

Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, this is a hands-on Process Engineering position with responsibility for supporting a defined manufacturing area and driving improvements across new product introduction, process development, equipment, productivity, quality, and manufacturing performance.
You will take ownership of engineering projects from initial concept through to implementation, including capital expenditure projects, new equipment introduction, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with Production, Quality, Purchasing, Design, and external suppliers, you will play a key role in ensuring manufacturing processes are efficient, capable, safe, and aligned with customer and business requirements.
The role would suit a Process or Manufacturing Engineer with experience within an automotive Tier 1, FMCG, or similarly demanding manufacturing environment, who enjoys solving complex technical problems and delivering measurable improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and monitor new product and product variant introductions, ensuring projects meet agreed targets for time, quality, cost, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Apply APQP methodologies throughout the NPI process, ensuring robust manufacturing processes are established prior to production.
  • Develop and optimise manufacturing processes, identifying appropriate work methods, equipment, tooling, and process controls.
  • Define requirements for new manufacturing equipment and work collaboratively with machine design, production, quality, purchasing, and other stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.
  • Lead and implement continuous improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing and PDCA methodologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production capacity, output, first-run capability, cycle times, OEE, quality, and overall process efficiency.
  • Drive reductions in scrap and rework through structured process improvement and problem-solving techniques.
  • Improve manufacturing safety, ergonomics, material flow, and production cell layouts.
  • Manage engineering and process changes in accordance with established company procedures and quality systems.
  • Provide technical support to production teams, investigating process and equipment issues and implementing both immediate containment and long-term corrective solutions.
  • Lead and contribute to complex engineering improvement projects, managing cost, quality, timing, resources, and implementation.
  • Participate in design reviews, influencing product and process development to ensure effective Design for Manufacture and Design for Test.
  • Manage relationships with external equipment and process suppliers, overseeing procurement, development, performance, and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain key manufacturing documentation, including PFMEA, Process Control Plans, operator instructions, and related process documentation.
  • Support the ongoing development and optimisation of manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, cost, and operational performance.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar engineering role.
  • Experience within an automotive Tier 1, FMCG, or similarly high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Practical knowledge and application of APQP, PFMEA, Six Sigma, and Statistical Process Control methodologies.
  • Experience of manufacturing process development, workstation design, and production cell layout.
  • Understanding of material flow, Kanban, pull systems, and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience of managing or supporting NPI projects and activities.
  • Strong understanding of structured problem-solving techniques and a proven ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and use it to drive process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work effectively across multiple functions and levels.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects to agreed cost, quality, and timescale.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing equipment and production processes.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems, ideally AutoCAD, for the development of parts, tooling, layouts, and manufacturing solutions.
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies and manufacturing processes.

Desirable Experience

  • Multi-skilled engineering knowledge across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Experience with electronics, hydraulics, and/or pneumatics.
  • Previous experience managing capital expenditure and equipment installation projects.
  • Experience working directly with external machinery and equipment suppliers.
  • Experience within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

A degree or equivalent qualification in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
An Honours degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Systems Engineering would be advantageous, although relevant practical engineering experience will also be considered.
