Technical Sales Support Engineer
Meet Our Author
About the Role
Our client is a long-established, globally respected engineering business that designs and manufactures high-speed machinery for the metal packaging industry. Operating from their Shipley site, they supply and support sophisticated equipment used by manufacturers across the world - and thanks to sustained demand, they're now growing their Sales Support team.
This is a newly created role, born out of a genuine increase in workload - always a good sign of a business heading in the right direction. You'll join a close-knit team of five, working at the point where engineering meets commercial: preparing quotations for machine upgrades and conversions, and supporting the spare parts quotation process that keeps their customers' equipment running.
If you're a technically-minded engineer who enjoys the variety of customer contact, problem-solving and quoting - and you like the idea of seeing where your work takes you (sometimes literally) - this could be a brilliant next step.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing timely, accurate quotations for machine upgrades, conversions and spare parts
- Acting as a key technical point of contact for customers, both pre- and post-sale
- Gathering the right technical information early in the sales process and working with Engineering to close any gaps
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to build and support quotations
- Helping maintain a spares overhaul database the sales team can package and sell
- Identifying upgrade and enhancement opportunities as commercial products
- Attending technical review meetings, carrying out machine audits and organising post-sales visits
What we're looking for
- A strong technical background - the client is open to candidates from various engineering/technical subsectors - full product training will be provided
- Technical sales experience is desirable, though a solid grounding in engineering with the appetite to move into a commercial-facing role will be considered
- The confidence to communicate clearly and credibly at all levels, with customers and internal teams alike
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to generate quotations
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team, with the discipline to prioritise your own workload
- Genuine flexibility around travel - this role involves up to 50 days of international travel a year, including some at short notice, so a willingness to be on the road (and in the air) is essential
The package
- Circa £55,000 basic salary
- Annual bonus of up to 15%
- BUPA private healthcare
- Health cash plan
- Enhanced pension scheme
- Life assurance scheme
- Flexible start and finish times
- 33 days' annual leave
This is a rare chance to join a market-leading engineering business in a role you can shape, with real variety, international exposure and a package to match. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
