About the Role

MIG Welder — York (YO32)

Ongoing Temporary | Double Day Shift | £19.79/hr (£40,134/yr) rising to £22.95/hr (£46,543/yr) after 12 weeks

Ongoing contract. Modern manufacturing environment in York.

We’re recruiting an experienced MIG Welder for an ongoing temporary contract with a market-leading manufacturer of modular and temporary building solutions near York (YO32). The work is consistent, the employer is well-established, and the pay progression is real — a meaningful step up after just 12 weeks. If you’re a competent MIG welder with experience in a manufacturing or production environment and you want steady, well-paid work, this is worth a look.

Pay & Shift Pattern

Both shifts run 39 hours per week — the annualised equivalents below are based on contracted hours only, before any overtime premium.

Starting Rate

£19.79 per hour

£40,134 per year (39 hrs/wk)

After 12 Weeks

£22.95 per hour

£46,543 per year (39 hrs/wk)

Weekend overtime is available on top of contracted hours — at the prevailing rate, this has a material impact on take-home pay for those who want it.

Shift pattern — rotating weekly:

Week A (Early) -

Mon–Thu  05:45–14:00  + Fri 05:45–12:45 39 hrs

Week B (Late)

Mon–Thu 13:45–23:45 39 hrs

The Company

Our client has over 60 years in the design, manufacture, and delivery of modular and temporary building solutions — offices, classrooms, healthcare facilities, housing. They’re a genuine market leader in their space: well-funded, well-organised, and with the kind of production volumes that mean consistent, ongoing work rather than the stop-start that affects smaller manufacturers. This is a business that invests in its facilities and its people.

The Role

Based in the production facility near York (YO32), you’ll be MIG welding mild and galvanised steel up to 10mm thickness as part of an active manufacturing team. The work requires accuracy, consistency, and the ability to operate at pace without compromising weld quality. You’ll be working from engineering drawings and production instructions throughout.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • MIG welding of mild and galvanised steel structures, varying thickness up to 10mm

  • Inspecting welds against quality standards and specifications

  • Carrying out snagging, repairs, and remedial work to a high standard

  • Visual quality checks — identifying and reporting defects or production issues

  • Working from engineering drawings and production instructions

  • Drilling, cutting, and measuring as required

  • Using hand tools, grinders, and welding equipment safely and effectively

  • Maintaining a clean, safe working environment in line with H&S procedures

  • Supporting production targets while upholding workmanship standards

About You

This role suits an experienced MIG welder who takes quality seriously and is comfortable working at production pace. Specifically, we’re looking for:

  • Relevant welding certificates or previous coded welding experience

  • Level 3 qualification in welding or fabrication — desirable

  • Proven MIG welding experience in a manufacturing or production environment

  • Ability to inspect weld quality and carry out snagging and fettling to a high standard

  • Confident using hand tools and workshop equipment

  • Able to work from engineering drawings and follow technical instructions

  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to quality

  • Flexible and reliable — comfortable with a rotating shift pattern and occasional overtime
