About the Role We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Engineering Buyer to join the Procurement team on a permanent basis. This key position ensures the timely and cost-effective procurement of raw materials. You’ll play a central role in coordinating with suppliers, technical teams, and service departments to keep production and customer operations running smoothly. Key Responsibilities Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers. Source and procure raw materials and components for mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Ensure on-time availability of raw materials to support manufacture. Maintain accurate data in ERP systems – including specifications, lead times, and pricing. Manage supplier relationships, performance, and compliance with quality and delivery standards. Support continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives through effective sourcing and negotiation. Work collaboratively with Engineering, Service, and Planning teams to forecast and meet demand. Monitor stock levels, slow-moving and obsolete inventory, and drive efficiency in parts availability. Assist with warranty claims and product returns by providing accurate documentation. Generate reports on procurement KPIs, supplier performance, and inventory metrics. Uphold ethical procurement practices and maintain integrity in all supplier relationships. About You You’re a confident, detail-oriented professional with a solid background in procurement, supply chain, or buying — ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment. You’ll bring a blend of technical understanding, commercial awareness, and relationship management skills, along with a proactive, customer-focused mindset. What you’ll need: Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering (CIPS ideally but not essential). Minimum 2 years’ experience in procurement, within an engineering or manufacturing environment. Experience sourcing to engineering drawings, BOMs, and from international suppliers. Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and strong MS Excel/Word skills. Excellent negotiation, communication, and supplier management abilities. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement. Why Join? Salary, hours and benefits: Salary of £39,300 per annum Non-contractual annual bonus 33 days holiday (inclusive of stats) Westfield Health Up to 9% employer pension contributions, 6% employee contributions Flexible start and finish times, 37.5 hours per week – core hours Monday to Thursday 9:30 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 16:30 & Friday 9:30 to 13:00. About the role: With responsibilities including designing of new equipment, processes, procedures and systems, purchasing and overseeing equipment installation, this role will work cross functionally on various projects. Duties will include: Design new systems, equipment and processes to support new product introduction across operational areas.  Support Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) development meetings to ensure the smooth transition in to full production.   Support during the review and tender stages for new equipment, working with internal stakeholder to agree technical specification. Improve current operations as requested, working cross functionally to agree scope and delivery in full.  Supports PFMEA and update according to changes.  Liaise with research and development staff to ensure new product can be assembled and the correct processes and equipment are available for start-up.  Develop effective automated and non-automated systems.  Testing new and existing production processes.  Champion change management processes owning the ECR/ECN process for projects.  Embrace SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) in all projects.  Evaluate manufacturing processes based on quality criteria focusing on efficiency and speed.  About you: The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally covering areas of discrete part manufacture, and assembly operation, including fixtures and poke yoke.  An understanding of fast-moving machinery would be desirable but not essential as training could be provided.   Applicants should also have: Formal technical qualifications or experience in Manufacturing Engineering - HND or Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, ideally working towards a full degree.   Understanding of metal working processes.  Understanding of assembly and no fault forward by design.   Working knowledge of Engineering and Manufacturing BOMs (eBOM/mBOM) aligned with operations team assembly and manufacturing methods.  CAD (2D and 3D) ideally AutoCAD and Siemens NX. CAD/CAM knowledge. Previous experience in assembly or manufacturing operations, including commissioning of new operations. Experience managing projects from concept to completion. The Role As Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for defining, developing and validating technical solutions from concept through to delivery.
